The painting is a depiction of a young boy building a sandcastle with excitement on the shore of a beach. But despite the diligence and patience it has taken to build it, it is easily washed away, as if it was never there. This piece is an almost melancholy depiction of promises unfulfilled, but brightened by the sand and sea, it is also a reminder that each day is an opportunity to build the castle again.
