Unusual Circumstances, 2022, 24"X28"
I started this painting over 2 years ago and it was left unfished for quite a while, laying hidden beneath several canvases. I lost interest in it after it started feeling too laborious and without meaning. However, on taking another look at the piece, the name “Unusual Circumstances” came to me. This painting invites the viewer to reflect, perhaps to a crossroads between seeing life as a blessing and a reminder that past experiences or current circumstances can influence the rest of your life. Though the man can be seen as a tragic subject, the vivid red background brightens his surroundings, and conveys a sense of wonder and energy, the possibility to make things anew.
